Considering the climate and environmental concerns, our experts recommend fiber cement siding for Colorado homes, especially in the mountains, and James Hardie fiber cement is the best product on the market to keep homes beautiful, dry, and comfortable.
The reasons Bellwether recommends James Hardie fiber cement siding products for Colorado homes are because they are durable, resilient, versatile, and, when using our product offerings, are available in a large variety of colors, all with a long-term warranty.
James Hardie is the leading manufacturer of fiber cement siding and using fiber cement has many advantages. Fiber cement siding is resistant to water damage, mold, mildew, and pests. Most important for Colorado homes, it is resistant to fire.
These protective features do not sacrifice style. James Hardie fiber cement siding is available in more than 700 color options and can be installed on your home in a wide variety of popular joinery techniques. And once the job is done, fiber cement siding stays beautiful with almost zero maintenance.
James Hardie offers two important warranties on their fiber cement siding: a 30-year product warranty and a 15-year finish warranty, which applies to the proprietary ColorPlus® Technology. This technology makes paint colors more brilliant and ensures they last longer. The colors are applied to the siding in a controlled factory setting so that the paint is applied evenly and sticks to the material better, enhancing its durability—it is resistant to cracking, chipping, and peeling, as well as UV damage and fading.
Here is a breakdown of the 15-year finish warranty.
Limited Warranty
The warranty for the finish is limited to the purchaser and the first transferee, for 15 years. The products need to be used as intended, properly installed, and maintained for you to be able to submit a claim. If these stipulations are met, the finish will not peel, crack, or chip. In the rare case that it does, James Hardie will cover a percentage of the paint and labor cost to repair or replace the damaged part of the finish. The exact percentage depends on the age of the finish.
Conditions
The warranty is dependent on the right storage of the product before installation and then proper installation. Elite Preferred James Hardie contractors must adhere to quality standards of conduct and installation to maintain the special distinction. Bellwether will always adhere to the manufacturers’ best practices as the minimum standard for our installation procedures.
It is also important to note that any damage or defect has to be reported in writing before repairs are made. Pictures need to show the defect so that James Hardie can investigate and approve the claim. It might be necessary to provide samples and prove that you are a covered person on the warranty.
Exclusions
There may be exclusions to the warranty if the product was stored, handled, or installed incorrectly. If the product was altered, repaired, neglected, or misused, the warranty will not cover damages.
Additionally, if the material the siding is attached to settles or moves and causes damage to the finish, that will not be covered by the warranty. Acts of God, such as hurricanes, tornados, floods, earthquakes, etc. are also not included in this warranty.
Furthermore, if damage to the finish is caused by lack of proper maintenance that is not included in the warranty. The same applies to damage caused by mold or mildew.
Normal weathering of the siding is to be expected when it is exposed to sunlight and weather. If the finish fades or changes color before this weathering can occur, that is covered by the warranty, as are manufacturing defects.
Colorado Siding Care and Maintenance Tips
Maintaining your James Hardie fiber cement siding is simple: just rinse your siding off regularly to remove dirt and dust. If there are dents or cracks you should use a high-quality cement patching compound to fill them.
If the paint is damaged it needs to be removed before repainting. The surface needs to be cleaned and sanded before repainting it. Use good quality acrylic paint to repaint James Hardie’s siding.
